　　继收视和口碑均表现喜人的《白屋农场谋杀案》《丹斯》后，ITV预定了下一部真实罪案类剧集。
　　《杀死伊芙》《审讯室：英国》编剧George Kay负责剧本，《白屋农场谋杀案》导演执导。
　　本剧共7集，基于Michael Bilton的书籍《Wicked Beyond Belief: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper》创作，将讲述世界上最臭名昭著、令人震惊的连环杀手案件之一，即对被称为"约克郡开膛手"的Peter Sutcliffe的追捕。
　　在1975年10月至1981年1月期间，警方进行了英国犯罪史上最大规模的搜捕行动。对Sutcliffe的搜寻持续了五年，有超过一千名警员参与，彻底改变了英国警方的工作方式。
　　该剧不会仅仅着墨于警方的工作，还会聚焦受害者和他们的家属，以及那些被袭击却不被他人相信、生活被永久改变的人们。编剧George Kay表示："这不是一个讲述约克郡开膛手的故事，而是约克郡如何被撕裂的故事。"

英剧《漫长的阴影 The Long Shadow》基于真实事件改编，可以当成真实度大于60%的准纪录片来看。

片子讲的是在1975年10月至1981年1月期间，约克郡有个专门在晚上猎杀妓女的嫖客，杀了十几个人（另有说法是20多人），而且后来杀的单身女子已经不再是妓女。用地毯式搜捕都不能形容英国警察的抓捕行动，他们发动群众、播放广告、悬赏、把每个人都讯问N遍……但是5年都没破案。凶手在眼皮底下反复错过，最后是因为用假车牌漏了马脚才被捕，差点就给放了。

这个约克郡在哪儿呢，见上图，可以大概理解为英国的“腰部”位置。利兹（Leeds）是约克郡的著名城市之一，英国人口规模第三大的城市，片中也有几起案件发生在利兹。

比较有意思的是片中的英语口音，这地方的英语跟南边相比已经变化很大了，黑寡妇在苏格兰拍的《皮囊之下 Under the Skin (2013)》更是会让学英语的人怀疑人生。

受害者基本上都是被锤子敲了后脑，然后用刀开膛破肚，所以当时的英国报纸把此人称为“开膛手（Ripper）”。真凶看上去温和善良、人畜无害，见下图。

受害人最开始是约克郡的站街妓女，被他用车带走后杀害。后来警察看得紧，他就改成尾随夜晚单独行走的女性，于是就不再局限于妓女，受害人年龄从20多岁到40多岁不等。

因为警方在开始的时候公开声称凶手专门袭击妓女，导致后来很多人不愿意承认被凶手袭击，因为怕背上妓女的名声，这也增加了破案的难度。

不过，以上都不是我想说的重点，我真正想在本文说的是当时英国的民生和物价。当然了，前提是本片中给出的信息是准确的——我相信是准确的。

根据本片，当时的英国，卖淫是违法的（但是嫖娼不违法）。整个社会虽然知道卖淫不光彩，但是片中至少有两个丈夫同意甚至要求妻子去卖淫来挣钱养家。片中好几个妓女都是孩子妈妈，有的不止一个孩子，每晚去卖淫是她们重要（也许是唯一）的收入来源。

而且，当时约克郡的站街妓女非常卷，红灯区马路都是划好了地盘的，占了别人的地方会被礼貌的驱逐。

1975年大英帝国的GDP全球排名第五，人均GDP排名第29，同期中国人均GDP排名全球第120。
