◎简　　介　

　　内容讲述1841年英国商人舒狄克（大班）带领舰队，前往中国通商，以鸦片换取茶叶、丝绸及翠玉，然而遭受满清朝廷禁制，舒舰长于是带领舰队南下占领香港，开辟成为商港，并与其它商人展开勾心斗角的竞赛。但人算不如天算，一场飓风令他的命运急剧扭转。

◎幕后揭秘

　　陈冲初闯好莱坞的第一部英文大片，出师不利，遭到一片斥责。影片改编自克拉威尔的同名小说，意图通过一个人的经历反映香港的发展。但叙事十分紊乱，线头繁多，但节奏并不紧凑。陈冲扮演的“二奶”只会说些不中不洋的发嗲语，令人起鸡皮疙瘩。这是第一部完全在中国拍摄的西方影片。
